Setting timers

Timer Fantasy offers multiple ways to set your timer duration. The primary method is dragging on the analog clock face, which provides a natural and intuitive way to select time. As you drag, the timer display updates in real-time to show your selected duration.

For quick access to common durations, use the preset buttons below the clock face. These buttons let you instantly set timers for frequently used times like 5 minutes, 15 minutes, 30 minutes, or 1 hour.

Note: The clock face scale automatically adjusts based on your selected duration. A 5-minute timer will display on a 5-minute scale for maximum precision, while a 2-hour timer will display on a 2-hour scale.

Using the clock face

Click and drag anywhere on the clock face to set your timer. Drag clockwise to increase the duration, or counterclockwise to decrease it. The filled portion of the clock shows your selected time.

For fine adjustments, drag slowly near the edge of the clock face. For quick adjustments, drag faster or closer to the center.

End At mode

Instead of setting a duration, you can set a specific end time. Click the "End At" option to switch modes. In this mode, you select what time you want the timer to finish, and the app calculates the duration automatically.

This is perfect for scenarios like "remind me at 3:00 PM" or "alert me when it is time for my meeting."

Preset buttons

Quick preset buttons are available for common durations:

  • 5 minutes. Perfect for short breaks or quick tasks.
  • 15 minutes. Great for focused work sessions.
  • 30 minutes. Ideal for pomodoro-style productivity.
  • 1 hour. Suitable for longer activities or reminders.

Clock face scales

Timer Fantasy includes 16 different clock face scales, ranging from 5 minutes to 96 hours. Each scale is designed to show time in a way that makes sense for that duration. A 5-minute timer shows individual minutes clearly. A 24-hour timer shows hours.

The app automatically selects the most appropriate clock face based on your timer duration. You can also manually switch between clock faces by tapping the scale indicator button.

Available scales

  • Short timers: 5 minutes, 9 minutes, 15 minutes, 30 minutes
  • Hour timers: 60 minutes, 90 minutes, 120 minutes
  • Long timers: 4 hours, 8 hours, 12 hours, 16 hours, 24 hours
  • Multi-day timers: 48 hours, 72 hours, 96 hours

Auto Zoom

When Auto Zoom is enabled, the clock face automatically adjusts as time counts down. For example, if you set a 2-hour timer, it will start on the 2-hour scale. As the timer approaches its final minutes, it will zoom in to show more detail.

This feature ensures you always have the most useful view of your remaining time. You can enable or disable Auto Zoom in the timer settings menu.

Manual scale selection

To manually change the clock face scale, tap the scale indicator button (showing the current scale like "60m" or "8h"). Each tap cycles to the next available scale. When you manually select a scale, Auto Zoom is temporarily disabled for that timer.

Multiple timers

Timer Fantasy supports unlimited simultaneous timers. Each timer runs independently with its own settings, colors, labels, and alarm sounds. This makes the app perfect for complex scenarios like cooking multiple dishes, managing workout intervals, or tracking multiple deadlines.

Timers are displayed in a responsive grid that automatically adjusts to fit your window size. Resize the window to see more or fewer timers at once.

Creating timers

To create a new timer, click the + button in the top-right corner of any existing timer. A new timer will appear in the grid, ready to be configured.

Each new timer starts in the idle state with no time set. Configure the timer by dragging on its clock face or using the preset buttons.

Managing timers

Each timer has its own set of controls:

  • Start/Pause button starts the countdown or pauses a running timer
  • Cancel button (X) stops and resets a running or paused timer
  • Delete button (trash) removes the timer entirely. Only available when idle.
  • Settings button (⋯) opens alarm sound, loop, and color settings

Timer states

Timers can be in one of four states:

  • Idle means the timer is not running and ready to be set
  • Running means the timer is actively counting down
  • Paused means the timer is stopped but keeps its remaining time
  • Alarming means the timer has completed and is playing the alarm sound

Customization

Timer Fantasy offers extensive customization options to make your timers work exactly how you want them. Each timer can have its own individual settings for alarm sounds, colors, looping, and labels.

Access customization options by clicking the settings button (⋯) on any timer.

Alarm sounds

Choose from 15 built-in macOS system sounds for your timer alarms:

  • Basso, Blow, Bottle, Frog, Funk
  • Glass, Hero, Morse, Ping, Pop
  • Purr, Sosumi, Submarine, Tink
  • Default system alert sound

You can also adjust the alarm duration from 1 to 60 seconds. Shorter durations are good for quick notifications, while longer durations ensure you do not miss important alerts.

Colors

Each timer can have its own accent color, making it easy to distinguish between multiple timers at a glance. The color appears in the progress arc and highlights.

Choose from the color picker, or enable Auto Color to have the app automatically assign distinct colors to each new timer you create.

Looping timers

Enable looping to have a timer automatically restart when it completes. The timer will play its alarm sound, then immediately begin counting down again from the original duration.

Looping is perfect for:

  • Interval training and HIIT workouts
  • Pomodoro technique work sessions
  • Regular reminder intervals
  • Cooking tasks that need repeated timing

Labels

Give each timer a custom label to identify what it is tracking. Tap the timer name at the top of the card to edit it. Labels can be up to 50 characters and support emoji.

Example labels: "Pasta water 🍝", "Meeting reminder", "Laundry", "Stretch break"

iCloud sync

Timer Fantasy automatically syncs your timers across all your Macs using iCloud. Create a timer on your MacBook, and it appears on your iMac. Change the settings on any timer and the changes sync everywhere.

Note: iCloud sync requires you to be signed into the same iCloud account on all devices. Sync happens automatically in the background. There is nothing you need to configure.

What syncs

  • All timers and their configurations
  • Timer labels and custom names
  • Color preferences
  • Alarm sound selections
  • Loop settings
  • Clock face scale preferences

What does not sync

  • Running timer state (timers run independently on each device)
  • Window position and size

If you do not use iCloud or prefer to keep your timers local, Timer Fantasy works perfectly offline. Your timers are stored locally on each device.
